2 weeks agoCreation Dance Studio is a community gem tucked into the beautiful South End of Mercer Island. The teachers are world-class, the communications are extensive and timely, and the culture is supportive and nurturing. The noncompetitive dance company of children and adults performs at community events both on and off Island. There is a strong adult ballet program. And this year, the school has added a children’s tap class as well as expanded its youth ballet offerings significantly. Lots of energy here intended to spark and nurture the joy of dance and being in community.

a month ago"It felt like the studio cared more about beautiful tutus than the actual well-being and confidence of the children." We had a mixed experience over the full school year. On the positive side, the owner Ms. Stevie showed sincere care, and the instructor was incredibly patient and wonderful with the kids at the beginning. However, the second half of the year shifted entirely to the recital. The classes became repetitive, and the kids grew bored. It felt as though the studio began prioritizing a glamorous performance over keeping the children engaged and learning. This rigid focus really impacted my highly sensitive son. He isn't a natural-born dancer and worried he would "ruin" the show for the other kids, ultimately deciding not to participate. When I tried to address this, the office manager blocked me from communicating with his instructor. Now, a boy who genuinely loves to dance is left feeling like he is the "worst dancer" because he wasn't allowed to perform. Sometimes, just a word of encouragement from an instructor, or the validation of being given a small role like a "tree" on stage, builds up so much confidence for a child. We aren't looking for professional perfection; we just wanted our children to enjoy moving their bodies. I am deeply disappointed by how this situation was handled, and wish the studio had prioritized the children's hearts over a glamorous and flawless show.

a year agoCreation Dance Studio is an incredible mix of excellent instruction with a loving community. My daughter absolutely loves dancing there, and I love it as well. Every single instructor is outstanding. They are knowledgeable, kind, talented, and deeply passionate about teaching dance. The studio is also remarkably well organized. Ms. Stevie and Ms. Hailey are excellent communicators and are always accessible to both parents and students. If your kid loves to dance, Creation Dance would be an excellent place for him or her. I can’t recommend it enough.
